Important Personal Development Lesson: Finding and Living Your Purpose
How important is living your purpose? From time to time, many of us often wonder what our exact purpose in life is. There are times in our lives when we wonder if what we are doing every day is purposeful and fulfilling.
We all want to live a life that is purposeful and satisfying, but for some of us, it is hard to determine what our exact purpose is. For others, they may feel as if they don’t have the time to stop and think about their purpose because they are too busy managing life in their comfort zone.
For whatever reason, it can be difficult searching for and ultimately finding the precise purpose for being here. In terms of you, you may find that you hear this question loud and clear: “How do I find my own reasons for being here in this life?”
Finding and living your purpose does not have to be challenging; what one person feels is purposeful within their life is not going to be the same as what someone else feels. This is the beauty of personal development. Everyone has their own journey.
It is solely based on what is important to you and if you feel as if you are really making a difference.
Here are some ways to guide you into finding your purpose…and to live it each day.
Finding and Living your Purpose
Your life purpose is your message. Ask yourself, “What is the one message I want to send to others while I am here on Earth?” Another question you can ask yourself is, “What exactly do I want to accomplish throughout my lifetime?”
What do you love doing? What gives you that inner-fire and keeps you feeling happiness and at-ease?
Step out of your comfort zone. Once you do something that feels a little uncomfortable at first, you begin to see and feel more in life.
Reach out and help others. Doing so will increase your feeling of giving and inner-satisfaction.
All of these suggestions can help you confidently understand your life’s purpose. Now it’s time to figure this all out.
The Mission Statement Method
Think about the mission statement of a company. This mission statement is crucial in the long-term goals of an establishment, and everything that company does is centered on that mission statement. Now, think about your life. Your life purpose is like your mission statement; it comes from your core beliefs and needs to be focused upon throughout your life. Practice writing a few mission statements and perhaps that can help you find that one message you wish to send to others, through speaking and, more importantly, doing.
The Listing Method
Make a list of all of the things you love doing, not just for pleasure, but for true happiness and inner-peace. Be honest with yourself and understand there are no “wrong” answers on your list; all of us are unique and different things make us feel purposeful and give us that tenacity. Be sure your list is not all about you, per say, but about others and how you can combine what you love doing with helping people.
Take that Risk!
It is not easy to take a risk. Not at all. But sometimes it is necessary to do so in order to explore what truly makes you live. If you are stuck in a rut and every day you find yourself doing the same thing over and over again without much fulfillment, take a look at your list and find ways in which you can step out of the box and do something you absolutely love.
This is a gradual process and does require planning, so set short-term goals along the way to help you achieve what you want to do to fulfill your sense of purpose in life. Yes, taking risks is a scary thing to do, but if you step out of your comfort zone very gradually, you will see the world of unique opportunities unfold before your eyes.
Reach out to others. You will be amazed at how much better you feel in this life if you help others in some way. Not only will you be doing something good for humankind, but you will find that helping others will increase your connection with others. Anthony Robbins also said this “Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution experience life’s deepest joy: true fulfilment.”
Developing healthy relationships with people all while helping in some way will keep you fulfilled and give your life more meaning. Also, influencing others by doing what you love will open new doors to new opportunities, and your purpose will become clear before you know it.
We all want to feel accepted, appreciated, and loved. We do. So why not extend yourself a little and show others that you accept, appreciate, and love them? The purpose for being here is certainly to feel a deep sense of worthiness -to ourselves and others.
You will find that when this occurs, your actions will be reciprocated within human nature; you will receive the same from those who you made an impact upon. Think long and hard about what you love, take risks, be influential to many, and more importantly, stay true to your values. Before you know it you will be on your way to knowing your purpose in life.
