Typographic Tutorials
Tracking the timeliest type trends is nothing new ’round the Awesome Blog. But, rarely do these posts share the secrets behind designing these fonts.
So, thanks Graphic Alerts! They’ve cobbled together 33 of their favorite tutorials for designing these fonts in Photoshop. Check out the collection here.
Thin Is In
This season, if you want to be the envy of all your friends, perhaps you should slim down a bit. Shed some of those thick curves. Make it so your friends just can’t resist screaming, “OMG, that font is SOOO slimming on you!!!”
Wait, we’re talking about fonts?
Yup. Suddenly, we’ve noticed a number of posts on [...]
Awesome Alphabets
Ruben Miller passes along 24 (yes, that number is wrong in TWO different places on his site, but still) imaginative alphabets created from everything ranging from butterfly wings to human hair to raw meat to toilet paper. (Wow, that list went downhill fast, didn’t it?)
See the collection here. Plenty of very creative executions.
Type-tastic*
Gaaah! We’re falling a bit behind as things are getting busy ’round here. It’s also been a while since we’ve served up some tasty typography, so here’s a link to a nice little collection of 14 (not 15) slick typography posters, one video, and one bar of typography… soap? Yep, you read that right.
And if [...]
“In a world…”
When it comes to movie trailers these days, you pretty much know what you’re going to get. That [...]

… although we’d be the first to admit it’s kinda awesome.
But still, why destroy our wonderful office library when you can just check out Brian Dettmer’s “book autopsies” down the street at the Packer Schopf Gallery (through July 2)?
Dettmer carves up various tomes to reveal the artwork (and select passages) contained inside, and the results [...]

Oh boy… like my friends who insistently berate Denis Leary for ripping off Bill Hicks needed any more ammo…
Granted, the text in the above commercial wasn’t designed by Leary or anything, but with the same style popping up here and here (and reported on by the Awesome Blog way back here)… oh, and in another car commercial (!) here, it sure is a mighty [...]

- Hi Tung, Thanks for the comment - you've got a couple of QR examples on your blog that were new to us. If you have any other examples or case studies that you'd like to send our way, please do and we'll get them up on the blog! -Brian by Brian Asner
- Hi Brian, Fantastic write up of the ways we can really push the potential of QR Codes, it's a shame that more people don't seek out creative ways of engaging the audience. An example of your point: # Hide clues for a scavenger hunt amidst QR codes placed in various locations. http://mobilemediamarketing.posterous.com/adding-qr-codes-for-a-valentines-adventure I work with QMCODES, who are assisting SXSW by Tung
